How it works
A technical, fine-art skillset
The Florals Course is unlike my other mandala courses. It focuses on technical skills and helps you understand fine art concepts like chiaroscuro (the study of using light and dark to create depth and shape), 3-dimensional painting techniques and the ability to paint organic subject matter.
You'll start with the fundamentals of realistic florals, walking through a large variety of different flowers and how to paint them stroke-by-stroke. Then you'll move on to two full-length masterclasses, each showing you start-to-finish how to complete two different styles of floral mandalas.
The pieces we paint together are yours to do with as you please, including selling them to collectors should you wish to!
The curriculum
A 6-module floral curriculum
Fundamentals and technique first, then two full-length masterclasses to put it all into practice on a 22" and a 16" mandala painting.
Module 1 — Specialty Tools & Brushes
A few specific tools and floral-friendly brushes are needed to work through the course and masterclasses — none of them expensive, with links and suggestions for the few upgrades from your regular mandala supplies.
Module 2 — Drawing & Painting Floral Fundamentals
The difference between drawing simplistic flowers and ones that look like you could pick them off the page. Train your eye to see what's really there in shape and movement, so you can translate any flower into a painted, life-like floral.
Module 3 — Light vs. Dark for 3-Dimensional Florals (Chiaroscuro)
Understanding light and dark, and how to capture them accurately with paint, is the key to making 2-dimensional paintings look like 3-dimensional flowers — choosing a light source and using it to place highlights and shadows.
Module 4 — The Painted Florals Tutorial Library
A step-by-step walkthrough of the top 10 florals and floral designs used in these floral mandalas — 10 separate trainings and a guided workbook, turning you from floral newbie to floral pro before Modules 5 and 6.
Module 5 — Mandala Masterclass #1: Field of Wildflowers
The first of two full-length pieces, painted together in the looser, more free-flowing “wildflowers” style — mastering the blurred “bokeh” background effect, then filling the piece with gorgeous, realistic florals.
Module 6 — Mandala Masterclass #2: The Floral Mandala
A full-length masterclass building on everything gained through Modules 1-5, guiding you step-by-step through a patterned, more geometric floral mandala design — as captivating as it is unique.
Two masterclasses
Two pieces, start to finish
Masterclass #1: Field of Wildflowers
Together we'll paint this 22" piece. You'll learn the "bokeh" background effect, and how to map out, paint and shade a non-patterned design using the florals learned in Module 4.
Masterclass #2: The Floral Mandala
We'll take what you learned in Masterclass #1 and apply it to a more structured, 16" patterned mandala design using life-like florals — combining the organic nature of flowers with the geometric magic of mandalas.

Hi, I'm Lauren
I was about a year into my mandala painting journey, when I started to wonder about how I could take things further.
While I absolutely adored my art form, I also at times felt like a looser, more expressive and organic approach would allow me to access a state of flow and ease within my painting practice when I needed it.
I also wanted to see just how much I could elevate the visual impact of my pieces, incorporating my past experience as a landscape painter and art teacher into my current niche of dot paint mandalas.

How long do I have access to the course content for?
You have lifetime access to The Florals Course curriculum.
Is The Florals Course too advanced for me if I have no experience with realism painting?
The Florals Course has been made to meet you wherever you're at in terms of skill. If you have experience with painting or drawing life-like subject matter, it'll be an asset but is not a necessity — every module breaks the process down so it can be learned no matter your background or experience level.
I don't have any experience painting mandalas. Is The Florals Course still for me?
The Florals Course is a stand-alone course with no prerequisites in terms of skill-level. You can apply what you learn to non-mandala pieces if you wish — though experience painting mandalas will help if you want to create actual floral mandalas, since a lot of the necessary tools and supplies will already be on hand.
English is not my first language. Are there subtitles or translations available?
Yes! Every video has the option to turn on captions and translate them into whatever language you need, right from the video player.
How does it work?
You'll start out learning the fundamentals of realistic florals — a large variety of different flowers and how to paint them stroke-by-stroke. Then you'll move on to two full-length masterclasses, each showing you start-to-finish how to complete two different styles of floral mandalas.
Are there links for the recommended supplies inside the course?
Most recommended supplies and brushes are either available on Amazon (personal favourites with links included) or in local craft/art stores. If you already have mandala supplies, you have about 95% of what you need — estimated additional investment is $10-$20 USD.
Is there any support from you provided inside the course if I have questions?
There's a questions section below each module that I keep active, so students can ask questions as they work through the material — however this isn't an included, guaranteed feature, and I'm not able to provide feedback on the pieces or florals you paint. TFC is a DIY course offered at an accessible price point by not offering an official form of support. That said, if you ask a question there I'll do my best to respond.
